Privacy Company had previously developed its own privacy e-learning course. Since we began working together, we have also jointly developed a security e-learning course. We spoke with Anne Martine Koetsier, Manager of Training & Awareness, about how these e-learning courses came to be.
What led you to develop an e-learning course?
Every day, our consultants support our clients’ employees in processing personal data and keeping their cybersecurity up to date. Many people don’t fully understand the importance of the law or what is and isn’t permitted. That’s why our consultants spend a lot of time explaining the rules and how to apply them in practice. We developed the e-learning course to address this, and it’s been a huge help. It saves our consultants a lot of time, which they can then devote to more complex issues where their expertise is truly needed.
For what type of companies was it developed, and who are the users within those organizations?
We developed the e-learning course for all employees of medium-sized to large companies. In large organizations with many employees, it’s no longer feasible to organize in-person training or awareness sessions for everyone. These can be both Dutch and internationally operating organizations, since we also offer the e-learning courses in English. Initially, we had companies with more than 500 employees in mind. But in practice, we see that companies with more than 100 employees are already using the e-learning to raise awareness.
The cost savings often play a major role here, because e-learning is much cheaper than repeatedly organizing training sessions led by a colleague or trainer.
How does your solution help Privacy and Security Officers and HR departments in large organizations? What makes your e-learning unique compared to others?
The strength of our e-learning is that it’s to-the-point, short, and engaging. We engage users with relatable scenarios and limit ourselves to the strictly necessary information for all employees. We use short texts, videos, and animations. We translate our consultants’ knowledge and practical experience into practical tools within the e-learning course. This ensures that all employees receive the same information and develop a more positive outlook on the subject—something that is often lacking in practice.
Furthermore, it’s possible to supplement the e-learning with your own information, such as examples or policies specific to your organization. This way, employees receive all relevant information in one go, which saves the HR department a lot of hassle.
If you ask me what makes us unique, it’s that with our e-learning programs, privacy management software, and GDPR consulting, we have everything in-house to support companies and organizations with all privacy-related matters. We translate all our knowledge into useful tools for our clients.
Can you briefly explain how an e-learning course works and why every organization should offer this type of training to its employees?
Our e-learning raises employee awareness of the most important aspects of privacy and security. This is crucial for preventing mistakes that could lead to data breaches or other security incidents. Well-informed employees help protect company and customer data, which ultimately leads to a higher level of trust among customers and partners.
Our e-learning is easy to implement and manage within your own environment, whether you choose hosted solutions or use your own LMS. Our learning platform is intuitive and makes it easy to track and report on user progress yourself. This can be important for audits and certification.
You partner with Pluvo—what benefits does that offer?
Pluvo has a wealth of knowledge and experience in the field of online learning and is always on the lookout for new developments in this area. This is also reflected in the platform’s many features and user-friendliness. In addition, we benefit from their expertise in onboarding processes. In our collaboration, our substantive expertise in privacy and security perfectly complements their expertise in online knowledge sharing. This benefits our customers and, of course, the users.
What developments in training can we expect in the coming year?
We’re constantly working on improvements and expansions to our e-learning based on customer feedback and external trends! For example, we’re currently exploring the latest developments and possibilities in interactive videos, as well as options for tailoring e-learning to specific target audiences.
What are customers’ experiences?
The fun factor really stands out! Potential customers are pleasantly surprised by how we present sometimes rather dry content in an engaging and entertaining way. As a result, more employees complete the e-learning courses, and privacy and security awareness is truly enhanced.
We often hear from clients for whom we’ve implemented the e-learning that the implementation process was much easier than expected. Apparently, clients tend to dread this process or have had less positive experiences in the past.
